Soon after the invention of the car was the invention of racing.  Since the ‘60s

racers have gone heads up at the Mid America Dragway in Ark City, Kansas.

So what better place to hold an era correct drag race? 

 

The Midway Drags presented by Hot Rod Sanctuary will be held

June 7-8, 2024 at the Mid America Dragway.  Who’s Hot Rod Sanctuary? We are a

group of guys and gals who are passionate about all things involving cars, trucks

and race cars!

 

The rules for racing at the Midway Drags are pretty easy…no new stuff.

 

Race Cars must be era correct ‘72 and older. 

  • Max wheel width 10”

  • Max tire width 12”

  • NHRA requirements are in effect, seat belts, roll bars, etc.

  • Heads up racing

  • Sportsman tree

  • Front engine dragsters only

 

Under NO circumstances should your car have…

  • Antifreeze in the cooling system

  • An LS motor, turbo or procharger

  • Electronic fuel injection - Fuel injection is awesome, but if it’s not era correct, it’s not for this race.

  • Modern Wheels - If they’re not period correct you won’t race. 

  • Modern scoops, giant cowl hoods, giant wings, etc.

    • Standard sized cowl hoods on approval!

  • Wheelie bars that stick out 10 feet behind your car - Max is 12” past the body/bumper

  • Swoopy neon 80s graphics - paint jobs must follow the ‘72 and older era.

  • Dial Numbers - This isn’t a bracket race

  • Go-go juice, they didn’t have NOS in the 60s

  • Super shiny billet or other modern equipment under the hood; valve cover, air cleaners, etc.

  • Fancy electronics like stutter boxes, digital gauges, throttle stops or monster tacs on the dash.

  • Be a full bodied door tube chassis car

  • White or yellow lettering on tires/slicks - it’s black wall out

Friday Night

Track opens at 5 p.m.

Lanes open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

 

Saturday

Gates Open at 8 a.m.

Drivers Meeting at 12 p.m.

Racing Start at 1 p.m.

Friday Night $30

Saturday $50

2 Day Race Pass $75

All entry fees are paid at the gate.

 

Registration

Pre-registration is required. You can do that at hotrodsanctuary.com/register 

Racers must bring their approval letter to be admitted to the race.

Car Show

In addition to the race, there will be a car show. Any and all hot rods 1972 and older are welcome. Your spectator entry gets you an entry into the car show, just let the folks at the gate know you're parking in the car show.

$15 a Day – Adults (Aged 13+)

$25 for a 2-Day Pass

Events Schedule

Friday, June 7th

  • Track will open from at 5 p.m. for campers and unloading

  • Test and Tune will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 11 p.m.


Saturday, June 8th

  • Gates open at 8 a.m.

  • Mandatory Driver's Meeting at 12 p.m.

  • First call to the lanes at 1 p.m.

  • Awards when all class racing is completed.
